About New Beginnings

Who are we?

We are a church plant that began in the spring of 2000. New Beginnings began from a vision birthed in the hearts of two couples, Kirby & Olivia Friesen and John & Jackie Fuller. In this vision, wounded and hurting people from both religious and non-religious backgrounds found a new beginning in Christ Jesus their Saviour. We believe that through caring and real relationships, people can experience the unconditional love of God and healing from past hurts.

What is our focus?

- Fellowship / Relationship
- The Teaching & Practicing of God's Word
- Outreach to the Community & the Needy
- Worship in Music, Hymns & Spiritual Songs

The name New Beginnings is intended to meaningfully relate to our purpose as a church family. Many people today feel that the church is an institution that they cannot relate to. Through past hurts caused by broken families, bad church experiences, and other forms of abuse within our society, many people have determined that relationships are too painful. Because of the disfunction of many of the people we regularly relate to, many have withdrawn from close relationships. The church has not been without its problems in overcoming the obstacles created by abuse of individuals.

Too often those in positions of leadership have established ground rules for fellowship that have devalued the people they have intended to serve. The present move in the church to 'come as you are' is intended to communicate the truth that God accepts us as we are. The primary condition that will enable a man, woman or child to experience God's forgiveness and acceptance is brokeness and repentance. Many are not sure what they have need of until they are confronted by the love that only comes from God.

Many churches today put more importance on the things that make them unique from others (within or without the christian community) than on valuing each other and those who have yet to hear the Good News. The word 'Fundamentalism' is considered a bad word in most places these days for that very reason. Valuing opinions and beliefs over people is to swap priorities. When the value of people comes first, only then we will be in a place to serve. Jesus reminded his disciples that to be the greatest is to be a servant of all. Division in the church of Jesus Christ is not the result of loving people, but of putting ideology and doctrine before valuing people. Jesus said that they would know we are Christians by how we love one another, not in how unified we are in our statements of belief. Should we then devalue the study of Scripture? Of course not! We must evaluate if an increased 'understanding' of God's Word brings us into a greater love for God and others, or if it causes us to be lifted up in pride. The question we must answer then is; are we only learning more about God or are we coming to know Him? There is a difference...

We desire to meet the needs of every family. As we all strive to grow in emotional, mental and spiritual maturity, there are many things that help us reach our goals. We believe that the areas mentioned above are important to focus on.

Welcome!
